Hello bloggers,
In this blog post we are going to talk about bumble bees. I have to answer these questions and that is pretty much it.
The word ‘bumblebee’ is a compound word (bumble + bee). The word ‘bumble’ means buzz.
Bumblebees can fly very quickly. They can reach ground speeds of 54 kilometres per hour (km/h).
Bumblebees are very strong! They carry up to 90 percent of their body weight in food with them to avoid starvation.
Bumblebees can do more work and carry more pollen than other bees, including honeybees. In fact, they can do 50% times as much work as a normal honeybee.
The number of bumblebees is declining in New Zealand due to a number of factors, including habitat loss and disease [insert any two causes of the declining number of bumblebees].
Thank you for coming to my blog. Please give me feedback. BYE!!
Hi Vitaraag,
ReplyDeleteIt's Leslie here, a member of the Summer Learning Journey team reading your blog from my home in wintry Canada.
You've read the web site and gotten all of the information down correctly. Well done!! Have you seen bees in your neighbourhood this summer? I hope so!
We have real concerns about our bee populations in Canada too. We know that without bees we won't have food - that's a worry. Because of the use of pesticides in the past, and some loss of habitat, the bee populations are down. The other factor that's affecting them is a virus that's unique to bees. It's killing them and there's nothing we can do to prevent it.
Our best guess as to how to help the bee populations is to encourage people to plant as many bee-friendly wildflowers as possible in order to give them lots of nectar to eat. Hopefully the virus will disappear over time and the surviving bees will flourish if there's lots of nectar available.
I hope you're having a bright and sunny summer and that you're enjoying these activities.
I'll continue to read your blog.
Cheers,
Leslie
