Summer Learning Journey Week 3 Day 4 Activity 1

Hello bloggers,
Many people have sacrificed their things to help other people. For example Florence Nightgale and Marie Curie have done so. Florence Nightgale was born in 1820 in England. As she grew up she trained as a registered nurse. After that she went to the army to wound any accidents. She realised that the hospitals there were covered in a thick blanket of dirtyness. Suprisingly she used her own money to clean up this hospital and make it a more comfortable place to be. Marie Curie on the other hand found out new things that to this day still help us. She was the first person to use a X-ray and she found out a new chemichal. The new chemichal was radioactivity. She was awarded two nobel prizes. If you don't know what a nobel prize is go and check out week 3 day 2 activity 1 and 2. I explained what the nobel prize is. You may think that she was really succesful, but together her whole family has earned 5 nobel prizes! That is a lot. She later died because she used to carry radioactivity in her pocket. Anyway, for this activity I was asked to look at a list of nobel prize winners and then talk about one of them. So here is the explanation.

Ernest Rutherford was born in 1871 in New Zealand. Once Marie Curie had found out radioactivity that lead into deeper investegations.  In 1902 he was busy playig with atoms when suddenly he saw something weird. Some of the atoms were moving. This proved that atoms look like something else. This changed a lot of things. In 1908 he was awarded the nobel prize for chemistry and was posted on the 100$ bank note of New Zealand.

Summer Learning Journey Week 3 Day 3 Activity 3

Hello bloggers,
New Zealand inventors have dramaticially changed the world. For instance Bill Hamilton has invented numerous inventions. Many of which did not populate. One that did though was the jet boat engine. This is what makes jet boats move across the water at really swift and fast speeds. He made this to slove a problem many people had. Another inventor named John Britten made a really fast vehicle. It is a motorcycle. One of his motorcycles has won many awards for its speed, at a maximiun of 304km per hour. Thats really fast. So I was asked to invent a really fast vehicle. I used google drawing for this, I didn't actually build a real car. Anyways, here it is.

Hello bloggers,
Chuck Hull is a person who changed the world. He invented the worlds first 3D printer. So if you don't know what a 3D printer is here is a short explanation. Basicially it is a printer, but prints things out in 3D. Which is short for the third demension. They are usually printed out in plastic. Since this has happened it has dramaticially changed the way we build. Lots of people have broken their arms. Well, around the base of 3D printing a man named Jake Evill has invented a 3D printed plaster for broken arms. It is unbelivable. I watched a video abut artificial body parts. So now I will share thigs that suprised me and a thing that I learned.

So I learned that normal things like robotic arms cost thousands of dollars. If that wasn't enough, they usually wore them out in a few months. There is a company that uses simple princibles to make artificial arms. They charge about 70-100 dollars each one. Compared to robotic ones they are much much better. One thing that suprised me was that they wer waterproof. I would think that these types of things would not be suitable for water. The video explained that because they don't use anything like batteries.

Summer Learning Journey Week 3 Day 3 Activity 1

Hello bloggers,
Michelle Dickinson is known as 'Nanogirl'. She is a type of engineer and a type of scientist: this is known as a nanotechnologist. This amazing engineer is famous for putting on shows for children. If she isn't out performing she is in her lab studying. She has won numerous awards for her amazing books and performances. Lots of people like to crate really small things like, a nano house. So I watched three videos about tiny houses. Now I will explain why I want to live in a tiny house.

I would really appreciate to live in a tiny house. There are a few reasons why. The first on is that if you have a mansion and you get broken into then your most likely to not catch them. If your in a small house you can easily find them. Another reason is that you have a lot of alone time. You can have a lot of alone time because your most likely to only have one person in your house. If I had a tiny house I would probably not have it really near to other houses so you can have peace and quiet.

Summer Learning Journey Week 3 Day 2 Activity 3

Hello bloggers,
Ada Lovelace is known as the first computer coder desptite computers not being invented when she was alive. She is known as this because she found out a set of algorithims that could solve diffficult math questions. This is like a calculator. Katherine Johnson was an exceptional mathmatician who worked with NASA. Her job in NASA was to calculate if the rockets would go up to space. In 2016, a movie called 'Hidden Figures' was released and it was about Katherine Johnson and what she did in real life. Now, I tried coding and wrote if I liked it or not. Here is a screenshot of what I made and my review.

I think that the coding was great. I really enjoyed it. The reason I liked it was because they slowly added new blocks little by little. One thing that I thnk that they could improve about it was that they could tell you which way the person was drawing. Overall I would give this website a 9/10. Amazing learning game.
