Summer Learning Journey Week 3 Day 5 Activity 2

Hello bloggers,
Caine's Arcade is not like any other arcade, it is hand made by a child, going by the name Caine Monroy. His dad owned a warehouse. Everyday he would go to the warehouse with him. Sometimes he got bored so he decided to make an arcade. Amazingly, he made his arcade with cardboard scraps from his dad. Caine's arcade included many games. They are very cheap. For example for a fun pass it is 2 dollars. If that wasn't enough then he found out a way of validating a fun pass. He stuck calculators to the back of every game. On the fun pass there is numbers. If you multiply the numbers together it will end up with the decimal number on the fun pass. Many people ignored this person, but one man checked out his creation. He thought Caine was a genius. So he sent out letters, tweets, posts and much more informing all the people of LA to come and check this arcade. After this he had so many people who wanted to play his arcade games. So now I was asked to say what my favourite game is. Here it is.

Well my favourite game is called chess. Chess is a very strategizing game. People who play this game are one of the most smartest people in the world. (In terms of IQ). So it is a board game. It is a 2 player game. There are 6 pieces. There is the pawn. The pawn is a piece that can only move forward once. The rook and move forward and much as is wants or on its side as much as it wants. The knight moves in a L shape and can jump over units. The bishop can only move diagonal, but they can do it as much as they want. The queen can move diagonal and forward or sideways as much as it wants. The king is like the queen, but it can only move one square at a time. If you want to learn the game in more deatail search it up.

I hope you enjoyed my blog post. If you have any feedback please leave it in the comments. What is your favourite game? BYE!!

  1. Tēnā koe Vitaraag,I hope you are having a fantastic morning so far. What are you up to today?

Thanks for telling me about your favourite game and explaining how you play it! I babysit two boys who are 7 and 11 and the 11 year old loves playing chess too. He has tried to teach me a few times before but I can’t seem to get it, I always forget what each piece can do...but I think if I keep practising it, I'll get it one day! Who do you usually play chess with? Have you seen the NZ film ‘The Dark Horse’? It is an amazing film about some kids learning how to play chess and competing in a chess competition...although there is some violence in it so you may not be old enough to watch it yet.

My favourite game is spotlight which is where one (or more depending on how many people are playing the game) people with a torch are in and they count to 30 or 60 at the base, and the rest of the people go and hide, and then the person who’s in has to find them, but there’s a catch! The people who are hiding can try make it to base without being caught, and the first person who makes it to base wins! We always used to play this game up at Tawharanui Regional Park when we were camping there over the summer, and there were always so many kids playing and the adults would always be in! Have you ever played spotlight or been to Tawharanui?

Are you playing much chess over the summer? If so, have fun!

    Ka kite,
    Eliza :)

  2. Hi Vitaraag,
I liked how you said that your favourite game is chess because it is a very big strategy game, and it involves a lot of thinking. I also liked how you gave a brief explanation on what the different chess pieces can do. Are you good at chess?
